There’s a weight some of us carry with us every day. The loss of a loved one, especially to suicide, is overwhelming.
It’s crushing. It’s…
There aren’t exactly words to encapsulate that – the feeling of failure, guilt, and shame. Yet, Trophy Eyes’ Sean manages to describe those moments perfectly in a candid way. The band doesn’t dish out fluffy metaphors or try to twist a true story into a fable. Instead, the authentic and straightforward story provides listeners with a perfect sense of not being alone. While there’s plenty of music that does the same, there’s no other song I’ve found with the same sort of peace entangled into it.
I don’t believe I’ll ever get to see the track live… and yet I’ll be at every Trophy Eyes tour as they pull through New York City.
A Trophy Eyes concert takes that same feeling of loneliness and shoves it to the side even if the song in question being played has nothing to do with your feelings of neglect. The truth is, both the band and then fans, create a space of common and collective emotional processing.
It’s true that the songs can be upbeat, fun, and party-like at times. It’s also true that the passion that exudes from the band is intoxicating in a way that is almost indescribable and just like that one indescribable feeling of soul-crushing sadness is filled with one of joy even if only for a few hours.
