Indie pop-rock artist Dead Rituals and dream-pop artist Francis Moon join forces for “I Could Have Been Your Nowhere”.” Incorporating the styles of their genres, the track has early 2000s-esque guitar riffs accompanied by satisfying vocal layers.
Starting off with an extended intro highlighting guitar shows off the slight angst from the Dead Rituals alt-rock influence. Airy backing vocals and a fading outro capture Francis Moon’s “dreamlike atmosphere.” The outro of the song is a nice touch with the fading of jangly guitars into a slight build up in the instrumental. Vocal layers are emphasized during lyrics containing the word “goodbye” which emphasizes the song’s theme of missing someone. These vocal layers are catchy and can be stuck in your head (…in a good way).
The details, such as how “I Could Have Been Your Nowhere” begins and ends in contrast to each other, further contributes poetically to the storytelling of the song. Lyrics complimenting the production shows how Dead Rituals and Francis Moon compliment each other. Although this isn’t the first time the Italy-based band and Swedish singer have joined forces, it is the latest time since 2022 when the duo released “Tangled Up.”
